Getting to Know the ERF – Caterina Iodice
Caterina Iodice
JMW, London
Caterina Iodice, IBA European Regional Forum (ERF) Council Member for England
1. What does being European mean to you?
Being European means feeling a strong sense of belonging to a shared community – one that goes beyond an awareness of history, culture, trade or geographic boundaries. It is not simply about being born somewhere within the European territories, residing in a place or working across different countries. Indeed, belonging comes from a sense of familiarity by roots and being part of something greater. Much like making a meaningful, personal bonds with others who also value and passionately uphold this enduring and deep connection to a shared community and its scopes, initiatives and developments.
I have been living in the UK for longer than 20 years and throughout this time, I have felt a strong and resilient European identity. Despite recent political changes and global uncertainties, this identity remains vibrant and continues to be supported widely.
2. What would you like to accomplish in the ERF in 2025?
I was recently appointed as a Council Member of the IBA European Regional Forum. From the outset, I have experienced a strong and genuine sense of community. My objective is to participate actively and meaningfully, contributing in a collaborative spirit to a variety of innovative and ambitious initiatives. I am committed to promoting and developing professional values, knowledge, awareness and diversity – both to enhance my own professional journey and to support proactively a dynamic, inclusive legal environment. These efforts are, in my view, essential components of the modern legal profession.
3. Do you have any hidden talents or hobbies?
I absolutely love exploring new places especially in London, where I live. There is something special about discovering spots that often go unnoticed – whether they are overlooked because of their popularity or simply part of the daily grind of commuters. I get so much joy from capturing these moments through photography, which then serve as inspiration for my paintings. It is incredibly fun to experiment with different artistic techniques, allowing me to break free from logic and rules in those precious moments of free time. It is my own little escape, where creativity takes the lead!
